The Power of Print

Sometimes the screen is no substitute for the beauty and tactile experience of a well-crafted printed publication. At Stoltze Design, the print tradition is still alive and well, as evidenced by these exciting magazine projects with some of our favorite clients.

Most recently, we redesigned MIT's Spectrum to align with the identity for MIT's freshly launched $5 billion campaign. While still oversized, the redesign features a more manageable format, artful photography brilliantly printed on uncoated 100% recycled paper, and more visual points of entry, which bring a new energy and forward-looking feel to the entire magazine.

Another recent project is the spring issue of Hotelie magazine, the alumni magazine of Cornell's prestigious School of Hotel Administration. We introduced a spot metallic ink throughout, rich layered graphics, and an icon system for visual navigation. All of the elements work with Hotelie's exceptionally beautiful photography, utilizing stochastic printing, to create a luxe, high-end atmosphere within the pages.

We also continue to work with Milton Academy on their alumni publication, Milton Magazine. The recent spring issue focused on alumni who integrate their passion with contemporary tools and trends. The minimal cover was a standout, and was well received by stakeholders and audiences alike. This summer we are continuing our work with the school on another exciting print project: redesigning Milton's Admissions Catalogue.

And last but not least, ArchitectureBoston continues to be an inspiring project for our studio, as it has been for the past 9 years. The summer issue is the second in a yearlong series entitled "The Year of the Plan," which examines different facets of Boston's city and regional planning. Our role art directing, designing and producing the magazine includes researching artists that align with the issue's theme. This issue's "Temporary" focus yielded some particularly exciting finds!

We're also excited that the Summer 2015 issue, "Voyage," was selected for the prestigious and highly selective Communication Arts Design Competition, and will be featured in the September/October issue of CA.
