The Davis. Rediscovered, Reimagined, and Reframed

Stoltze has been keeping busy this summer assisting the Davis Museum at Wellesley College with the momentous reinstallation of their permanent collection. We've designed branding, banners, wall graphics, wayfinding systems, wall papers, and labels to frame more than 620 works of art, spanning three floors and eleven galleries. After nearly three years in the making, the galleries will reopen to the public tonight, and will more than double the number of works of art on view at the Davis.

Also opening tonight are three special exhibitions:
Partners In Design: Alfred H. Barr Jr. and Philip Johnson
Anni Albers: Connections
Charlotte Brooks at LOOK, 1951-1971

In addition to the identity and graphics for these stunning shows, we worked with the curators to create a catalogue to launch in tandem with the Brooks exhibit. The publication is an oversized magazine-style catalogue that references the format, typography and dynamic layouts of LOOK magazine. By including Brooks' uncropped original photographs and contact sheets contrasted with thumbnails of the magazine layouts, the design expresses curator Ileana Selejan's vision of Brooks at the vanguard of her generation's social movements, curtailed to fit into a general interest magazine.

We look forward to celebrating our collaboration with the Davis at tonight's opening. If only every one of our projects was capped by a champagne party!
